THANK YOU everyone who voted for my photo, FISHING PENS, VIET NAM, in my first PHOTOGRAPHERS WITHOUT BORDERS Contest. After the initial selection of 16 images by PWB staff , the public made their choices….and my photo placed SECOND.
While cycling in Central Viet Nam, I saw this photograph—that is to say, the instant I saw these men using fishing weirs to trap fish and eels in the Thu Bon River near Hoi An—I knew the image was worth preserving. The shot, into a late afternoon sun reflected by the water, was challenging.
Though Viet Nam’s major cities—Saigon aka Ho Chi Minh City/HCMC, Ha Noi, and Da Nang—boast boulevards to rival the Champs Elysees with the same designer and boutique stores found in Paris, Milan, and NYC, 66% of Viet Nam’s population live in rural areas and work in farming and fishing.
